VE Day was another opportunity for us to see what good neighbours we have in Cottenham. Lockdown would not stop our community spirit, or our chance to mark this occasion.
An army of volunteers stepped up to bake and deliver almost 100 plates of cakes and pastries to those who had been nominated by others in the village. It was a really fantastic effort by everyone involved. On a lovely warm day it was great for those delivering and receiving to share a friendly smile or a story.
There were Cottenham-organised events hosted online, as well as socially distanced doorstep and front garden gatherings which echoed those taking place across the country, bringing more joy and camaraderie.
Even with the lockdown restrictions, it seems we’re having more conversations with our neighbours now than ever. Long may it continue.
